Quality guarantee: We guarantee our produce 100%. If any unsatisfactory produce turns up in your order let us know straight away. We will replace the items or give a 100% refund.
How is my produce delivered? Deliveries are made on a Thursday afternoon. The time will vary depending on where you live. Orders are delivered in recycled plastic crates, cardboard boxes or foam eskys. If you are not home at delivery time the eskys will help keep your produce fresh for several hours. We ask you to leave your empty crate or esky out to be collected at the time of your next delivery.
How do I pay? Payment can be made at the time of delivery by cash or cheque, or by direct deposit. Where you have selected your own order an itemised invoice will be included in your delivery.
Where does the produce come from? Viv’s Organics only supplies certified organic and biodynamic produce. Where possible Viv’s Organics sources directly from local producers. These include Fernleigh Farm, Captains Creek and Trewhalla Berries, all near Daylsford. Forrestors Apples from Harcourt. Madelaines Eggs from Clarkefield, and Redbeard Bread from Trentham. All other produce is purchased from the biodynamic and organic suppliers at the Footscray wholesale market. The produce you receive is very fresh, you should notice that most items last longer than what you usually purchase. On the other hand some items may not last as long as what you are used to as they have not been subject to life-extending treatments.
What is Organic and Biodynamic? Organic and biodynamic food is not just ‘natural’ food . It is food grown without the use of artificial pesticides or fertilizers and by farmers who manage their properties in an environmentally sustainable manner and maximize the health & welfare of their animals. All produce supplied through Viv’s Organics has been certified organic through the officially recognised bodies. Please ask if you would like more information about the process.
Organic doesn’t cost more! Well ….we are actually paying more for most of our organic produce in relation to conventional, but this is out-weighted by the reduction to the overall cost to our health and the environment - costs that are actually real but just not as obvious to us as the weekly shopping bill.
The factors that contribute to organic prices are: it’s a relatively small, but fast growing, market; increased costs to the farmers; conversion expenses; certification expenses; increased labour costs; and slower growth rates. These last two points are worth exploring.
Hand weeding/hoeing is labour intensive but I’d rather be paying for that than cheaper produce for which an arsenal of chemicals have been used to suppress weeds, not only degrading the soil but also leaving us exposed to chemical residues.
Allowing plants to absorb the nutrients they need from the soil is a slower process than the practice of adding fertilizers that promote water absorption. The resultant pumped up fruit looks good but is definitely lacking in taste.
When buying organic you are contributing to a healthier lifestyle, eating great tasting food, helping to reduce soil erosion and water contamination, saving on packaging, reducing pollution and supporting farmers who choose to manage their properties with environmentally sustainable practices.
From a wholistic view, we are saving ourselves money, not least for future generations. Viv’s Organics delivery is offering you a premium product that’s also getting to your door faster & fresher. I believe that’s worth spending a few more dollars for.
